Y8 Graduate Profile (old)

All of my goals are basically the same, I am lazy, don't like helping people and I am very unmotivated. The only way I think I could fix these problems would be having more reason to come to school other then basic reasons. But I think I can change my goals by the end of the year because a lot of thing change in a year, I have noticed when getting older more things change or it might mean I care more.

Food Tech (old)

At the start of food tech we made a simple wrap with cooked meat and vegetables then the next tech we also did another simple meal, we made cheese toasties but the way without a toastie maker and it was really nice for something that takes a few minutes. The next tech day I was sick so I can't say how good it tasted but I know they made cheese rolls, Sushi was next and it kinda didn't go well because I barely got to get any as of most people because some people came through and swarmed the food and grabbed a lot. The next food was healthy burgers yet again I don't know how it tasted because I was only there for the practical but I asked a friend how it tasted and he said they were pretty good 7/10.

CIP 20 march (old)

Today we chose birds/native animals for the art that we will create and I think it was a choice because we have tons of native birds and we also have very artistic people in hornby so I think if we all work together we can make it look nice and do it quickly without much trouble.

Birds I think we should make out of rubbish
- Kiwi
- Fan tail
- Weka

Making birds out of trash is good because it represents all of us as a community and shows our commitment of finishing things we start, what we are doing currently is a good learning tactic for young people to learn how to work with other people well.

Drama Class (old)

Today in drama we made a chorus about food and health, we said lines about being healthy and eating well. The only day I was there at drama class was today I was not there on Tuesday but from what I know, is that healthy food has lots of benefits but junk food have zero benefit but it tastes good. If you can balance unhealthy with healthy food & exercise you don't need to worry, it all depends on what food you eat. Such as a mix of salad and burgers but you should eat more salads than burgers because most burgers have 14 grams of fat and salad have 10 grams but have nutritional benefits to help you start your day.

Drama Rethink (old)

This term in drama we were learning about changes and movements about our bodys changing, we used cards to dance, puppets to show changes & how or why to eat healthy. At the start of drama we did freeze frames to show emotions and changes. Drama has been a great class because I have been able to work with a lot of people that I normally don't work with. I got to learn more about the people I was working with.

Kiwi Kaha 10/4/8

Today we had a big event for doing great in kiwi kaha, so we went into the waiting part of the new gym and we were told what we we were going to do, first of all we had to take off hard bottom shoe. Then we walked into the gym and sat down on the stairs.

First activity was Balloon Transporter, in this activity you and a partner get a balloon in the middle of each others back and go to the end of the gym, Shanarnia and Rarotonga was in first but then they went to fast and dropped the balloon after that they gave up and waited.

Next up is Hans the activity was to pick up pasta with a spaghetti stick, he did good but he didn't win I think he came 3rd or 2nd. After that Jayden was up for two more, first he had to get a cookie in his mouth from on top of his head he got one in his mouth and came 4th. The next one was to blow paper from one side to the other he didn't do well because he came 5th.

Jesse had to keep three balloons in the air without holding it or letting it drop on the ground, he came first the first time but came 3rd in total, I think he did extremely well the first time because he won the first time very well.

Hamid and Tevita had to blow the biggest bubble, there isn't much to talk about this one they lost because they had no idea what they were doing it was funny, they also had a good time which is most important.

Tamani was next he had to flip cones in a small amount of time he was able to do 2 which put him in 3rd place, he acted cocky about only getting 3rd acting like he had gotten 1st.

And Zack he had to answer yes or no questions without saying yes, it was intense for the first question (and last) he said yes like a big brained genius, he did the worse he came last.

Overall this was extremely fun, I was rooting for people but I almost lost my voice in the process.

Elderly Visit 12/6

Today at school in period 2 we went over to an elderly home down the road near our school, the place is just a normal sized house but the area where the elder people where was filled with chairs, in the dining area there was a big long table for eating, it had a bunch of roses in a vase in the middle of the table. When we came in we went to some elder people and talked with them, the man I went to said nothing back to me and later I only ever heard him laugh once, I sat with a 85 woman and talked to her the entire time, we talked about our pet and she mentioned her son a lot and wished me good luck about me becoming a marine biologist. An hour felt like 20 minutes the visit was short but nice to talk about things that are happening in my life and being able to hear theirs.

Ki o Rahi Hurumanu

About Ki O Rahi

Ki o Rahi is a large team game thats played with 2 teams, kioma and taniwha on a large circular field. Played for 4 quarters or 2 halves of a set time, teams swap roles of Kīoma and Taniwha at half or quarter time.

Kīoma score by touching the Pou/s that are in the Te Ao with the Kī  then running the Kī through Te Roto/the next area and placing it down in Pawero/second closest circle to the Tupu to convert pou touches into points. Kīoma stop the other team, Taniwha.
Taniwha score by hitting the Tupu with the Kī. Kīoma will have Kaitiaki around the Tupu to stop Taniwha from hitting the Tupu. Depending on which variation is being played, Taniwha must stop Kīoma from scoring by either touching, 2 handed touch, ripping the tag or tackling them in the appropriate area.

Other

Equipment

1 tupu/ 40 gallon drum or rubbish bin.
7 pou/poles
Ki, woven flax ball, normal ball, rocks, rolled up jersey or anything.
Field marking.
Team ID/ some way to tell your team apart from the opposition.

Facts
The game is based on the Purakau of Rahitutakahina and the rescue of his wife Tiarakurapakewai. The tākaro is a reflection of Tupuna story telling at its best.

Music - ASMR

Have you heard of ASMR?
What do you feel when you listen to ASMR?
Is it something you would like to make?

I have heard of ASMR before, I am unsure of when I learnt about it but it was along time ago, I don't enjoy ASMR nor do I hate it I don't get any joy or discomfort from listening to it, but its fun to make ASMR. I would't mind do ASMR sometimes.

Mode Mean and Median The 3 M's

Today in class (8/4/19) we improved in using Mode, Mean and Median. We did this to learn three new strategies, after all of this I still don't think I will use the strategies a lot because they they take a long time but they are good for difficult questions most strategies I know are much quicker to use.

(Update (10/4/19) We used Mean to figure out two questions 1. What was the mean temperature in Christchurch over the past 5 days? 19 18 16 15 20 the answer is 18, the next question is 2. What is the mean temperature predicted for the next 5 days in Christchurch? the answer is 13 and the last question is 3. What conclusion can you make for the two mean results? and my answer was it is getting colder because global warming isn't true or it's a slow progress, or its because it getting closer to winter. Overall knowing how Mode, Mean and Median work is useful.

COMPOUNDS, MIXTURES AND REACTIONS

Aim: To combine two compounds to see if there is a reaction.

Definitions:

  1. Element; A single form of a chemical
  2. Compound: A mixture made up of 2 or more elements
  3. Reaction: A process in which chemicals mix together to form a new substance.
  4. Mixture: When two or more elements are mixed together.

Task 2: Place your household chemicals from your first chart into a second chart that has two compounds together. An example has been made below.

Note: You will need to use the internet to find out how these compounds react together.

Compounds
Method
Observation of reaction
  1. Vinegar
  2. Baking Soda
A teaspoon of the baking soda
was placed in a cup. 3 teaspoons
of vinegar were then placed into the cup.
The mixture bubbled, fizzed
and overflowed.
When a reaction occurs between compounds / elements there is always an end result in the form of a solid/liquid or gas. This always results in a new element being formed. For this process to occur, one of the results can be hot or cold.

Task 3: What is the reaction that results when these compounds are mixed?

  1. Golden syrup and Baking Soda:
  2. Baking Soda and Vinegar:
  3. Bleach and Vinegar:
  4. Gummy Bears and Potassium chlorate:
