Today in Hurumanu (Science) we l
Hurumanu - Climate Change
Aim: To look at the causes of climate change and how to prevent it.
As you watch the video answer these questions:
What is our greatest threat in thousands of years?
How do we see climate change affecting the globe?
- Increased heat waves
- Floods
- Strong and powerful winds
- Higher sea levels
What is needed to change history?
Use renewable power and use less fossil fuels
Is climate change a man made distaster?
Yes
Dramatic action must be made in the next 12 years to change it?
Why is our climate changing?
Because of Human waste (pollution)
What is causing the warming trend of the climate?
Gases stopping heat from bouncing out
What is the main problem?
Us humans using non renewable fuel as much as we should,
What are examples of these?
More forest fires, drought.
Burning fossil fuels releases what gas?
Carbon Dioxide
How much hotter now is our world?
1.1 c
What do we call this global warming?
Climate Change
How is this affecting creatures / animals like bats?
They are dying because of caves keeping in the heat
What percentage of species are near extinction?
30-50%
How could this effect the world ecosystems?
Soil getting less useful
What global change was seen and recording breaking last year?
Heat
How is climate change affecting our weather systems?
1. Floods
2. More heavy rain showers
3. Stronger heat waves
What is another effect of climate change?
Research being used more on climate change
What will happen if the ice melts in Antarctica and the Arctic?
More water and less "land" and penguins habitats being taken away by our causes
How does this affect people?
Dying from heat strokes and dehydration
What other things affect oceans change?
Tectonic plates and the earths core
What does to much heat do to coral?
Die
Why did some industries not want to stop burning fossil fuels?
Because production would slow down.

Investigation
You can decide on how you would like to do this investigation. Your presentation could be on the blog, slides, or Powerpoint.
Write a definition, upload an image and list where these fossil fuels are mined.
- Coal is a rock found in mines, it's different then normal rocks because it can combust meaning to burst into flames
- Oil, Oil is found underwater and deep into the ground
- Natural Gas is found everywhere but a big chunk is deep in the earth because when the earth was formed it collected a lot of gases
Write a paragraph and upload an image about each of these renewable energy.
- Solar Is trapping heat to turn into power, Germany and Spain are two countries that use solar energy the most. During 2009, Germany installed eight times more megawatts solar energy capacity than America did that year. Around 10 percent of Spain’s energy comes from solar power. Which is five times more than the average of 2 percent in the rest of the world.
- Wind pushing something that collects the wind and turns it into power, china uses the most amount of wind power over 145k megawatts. China has double then america has stored and america is the second to China.
- Waves are used to push something that collects power like how wind power is made
- Hydro is like wave power, moving water create energy that is captured and turned into electricity.
Write a 6 sentence reflection about what you have learnt about Climate Change and how it is going to affect us.
Animals are going extinct and land is being overrun by ocean man and people are drowning but, that's not also the only reason why people are dying. People are dying from dehydration due to heat waves. This leads to people dying from heatstroke, a large amount of countries money is going to research on how to stop this global disaster. So people aren't getting enough food and starving, if global warming isn't stopped quick enough, most animal might go extinct.

To support my learning I ask you to comment as follows:
1. Something positive - something you like about what I have shared.
2. Thoughtful - A sentence to let us know you actually read/watched or listened to what I had to say
3. Something thoughtful - how have you connected with my learning? Give me some ideas for next time or ask me a question.
